Lumira today means what SAP is planning to release within the quarter

Lumira is agile visualization

It started as a desktop solution

It is now branching into cloud, server

Visualizations are consumed by browser, mobile device

Figure 3 shows the ability to “Create visualizations from the data” and share insights with colleagues by telling a story

You can connect to corporate data, connect to HANA, traditional relational databases

You can also combine with personal data and acquire from multiple sources, with a rich library of charts

You can extend and embed visualizations through public API’s

You create storyboard to engage users and insight

Today Lumira allow business users, not just IT, to acquire data themselves, combine with other data

5fig.png

Figure 5: Source: SAP

Figure 5 shows you can connect to Excel, CSV, import to Lumira as a datasource and combine with corporate approved IT

You can do this from desktop, cloud and server

Figure 6: Source: SAP

Figure 6 shows you can connect to HANA online real time as a data source

There are multiple ways to leverage “Big Data”

Big data is a big part of Lumira

Figure 7 shows the ability to transform data including trimming, replacing values, new groups, calculated measures or dimensions, with built-in hierarchical engines, to define time and geographic hierarchies

You can personalize visualizations through public API’s and tell a story

9fig.png

Figure 9: Source: SAP

SAP doesn’t have all visualizations which is why have SDK’s based on D3 (open source library of visualizations)

As an example, look at this Github site:

Want guidance on visualizations includes visual discovery

Visual discovery is the ability for Lumira to recommend other visualizations based on measures and dimensions applied

Figure 11: Source: SAP

Figure 11 shows the create a storyboard feature – create a composite board with single or multiple visualizations to drive filtering

Infographics as shown in Figure 12 allow you to combine data and visualizations

1.16 will be released this quarter

Question & Answer:

Q: Can Lumira be installed on a stand-alone HANA box and connect to BW on HANA via Smart Data Access?

A: working on connecting BEx queries via Lumira Desktop  & BW on HANA

Q: Will Lumira ever support BWA?

A: no

Q: What is the roadmap for integration with SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio?  WIll Lumira and DS converge to a single product?

A: Want them to interoperate

Q: When Lumira would have visibility to HANA Attribute views and tables

A: Don’t know

Q: Will vizPacker move to a real IDE like Eclipse?

A: Recommend using Design Studio which will share same extension capabilities (in 1.3)

Q: What are the enhancements planned for Geo analytics? Will that be based on ESRI?

A: Yes it will

You can publish stories composed in Compose Room and extensions to Lumira Server, a native HANA application as shown in Figure 12

You can access compose room from Cloud or Server and leverage 4.1 environment

Lumira Server is a native HANA application.

Lumira Server is installed on HANA as shown in Figure 14, using identity and access management

It is the “enterprise self-service solution” with governed data discovery – IT & business needs to create enterprise self service

Q: Will Lumira Server customers require full HANA license?

Q: Do we need HANA enterprise license to install Lumira on HANA?

A: No – if you have full use HANA today, you have Lumira Server components to install

If you have limited use version of HANA (SAP NetWeaver BW Powered by SAP HANA) – provide ability to update for 15% of BI suite license

Q: Will Lumira Server end up being capable of housing CR, Webi, and other BI artifacts? Design Studio?

A: Working on a number of ways to have Lumira Server host other content types – CR on HANA to acess through Lumira Launchpad

WebI – likely not

Design Studio – yes

Q: Will this displace the BI Platform's role?

A: No – not something looking to do.  BI platform is important for governed data discovery – scheduling monitoring auditing universes

Q: It was mentioned on the BI council call that we can use Lumira agent to refresh data on the published story boards in the cloud but not on the server. When will it become available for the server?

A: Working on Cloud & Server to have direct live data connectivity – if data in HANA it is inherently live

HCI – can have live connectivity with Lumira Cloud
